Lifts: advice for architects and project owners

Sizing, specifications, comparison of offers and technical supervision of the lift package, integrated from design through to handover.

Lifts: advice for architects and project owners

The lift package combines constraints few other packages do: safety standards, accessibility, loads, traffic, civil engineering, power supply and the building’s future operation. An arbitration missed at design stage is paid for over thirty years.

We act as the specialised consultant, complementing the architecture practice and the engineers, without ever interfering with the architectural design.

What we hear most often

The situations that trigger a call

Non-comparable offers

Without a written scope, every supplier proposes their own solution. The comparison becomes an approximate exercise.

Forgotten interfaces

Shaft, sills, doors, power supply, ventilation, evacuation: the ancillary works reappear as change orders during the site.

Unanticipated future operation

A high-performing but costly-to-maintain lift, or one with exclusive parts, becomes a problem for the project owner.

A safety / budget arbitration hard to carry alone

Some items are non-negotiable. Identifying them early avoids discovering them at handover.

Our approach

Three steps, a deliverable each time

01

Early technical framing

Sizing, load, traffic, number of stops, accessibility, shaft constraints: the fundamentals fixed before the specifications are written.

02

Writing and tendering

Complete specifications, tender, bid opening with a weighted evaluation grid and analysis of the proposed variants.

03

Follow-up through to handover

Compliance checks against the commitments, coordination of interfaces with the other trades, tests and handover documentation.
